Honors Math Program - Grades 4-8

  • Holy Cross Regional Catholic School offers Honors Math to qualifying students beginning in Grade 4. Traditionally, students are identified as a potential candidate at the end of Grade 3; however, students may qualify in Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7.

  • The goal of this program is to accelerate students in mathematics to a level at least one year beyond the student's chronological grade equivalent.  Students in the Honors Math Program complete Algebra I at the completion of 8th grade.  They are eligible to continue participation in an advanced placement program in an Archdiocesan secondary school.

The Honors Math Criteria is as follows:

    • Consistent scores of 90 or above in Math Composite Score of the student’s Standardized Testing (National Percentile used)

    • Consistent scores of 80 or above in Reading Comprehension Score of the student’s Standardized Testing (National Percentile used)

    • Consistent grades of 90 or above in Math on the student’s report card

    • Evidence of above average performance on Mathematics Level Mastery Tests (Diocesan Level Testing). Students admitted from other programs or schools should be tested using back copies of these level tests. Above average performance is interpreted as a score of 85 or above.

    • Cognitive Skills Index falling within the Range of 125 in the Terra Nova Test or other testing used to indicate ability.

This criterion is not arbitrary.  Students not meeting these criteria are not to be admitted to the program without approval.  Students must consistently meet these criteria in ordr to remain in the program.
